Litany of humility

Oh Jesus, gentle and humble in heart, hear me.

Deliver me from the desire to be honored.

Deliver me from the desire to be loved.

Deliver me from the desire to be exalted.

Deliver me from the desire to be honored.

Deliver me from the desire to be praised.

Deliver me from the desire to be preferred by others.

Deliver me from the desire to be invited as an advisor.

Deliver me from the desire to be approved.

Deliver me from the fear of being condemned.

Deliver me from the fear of being despised.

Deliver me from the fear of being expelled.

Deliver me from the fear of being slandered.

Deliver me from the fear of being forgotten.

Deliver me from the fear of being ridiculed.

Deliver me from the fear of injustice.

Deliver me from the fear of the thought that others are more worthy of respect.

Jesus, grant me grace to desire this.

For others to be loved more than me,

For others to succeed in worldly honor,

For others to be used and I remain aloof,

For others to be favored and I am neglected,

For others to be preferred to me in all endeavors,

So that others may surpass me in holiness,

but on the assumption that I will achieve it to the best of my ability,

Jesus, send me the grace to desire it!

Amen.
